From Fear To Freedom

Feeling Out of Place

Hey Be-YOU-tifuls!! Have you ever felt like you just didn’t belong? I totally get it! When I moved to the U.S. as an immigrant, I was super excited to start my new life. But then, things took a turn, and I really felt out of place. I got a job as a customer service agent, working from home, and I was super excited. Back in the days, working from home was such a blessing and a privilege (for me at least it was). This was the first step in learning how to turn fear into freedom.

The Comments That Hurt

I Felt Small

Imagine my excitement as I started a job I thought would be perfect for me as a housewife and mother of two little kids. My first week at the job was absolutely brutal, because I faced some pretty harsh comments. I received a call from a customer. With a big smile on my face, I said, “Thank you for calling (xyz), my name is Danoue. How can I help you today?”

Then, the customer responded, “Give the phone to someone else. I don’t have time to teach you English right now!” My heart jumped, my hands were sweating, I was in shock, and my confidence dropped right away. It took me a moment to digest the bitter taste in my stomach.

I needed this job, but now it felt like I was staying in it out of necessity, not because I wanted to. I’ve faced comments like “Transfer me to the U.S.; I don’t want to talk to Indian people” multiple times. The irony? I’m not even Indian – I’m a proud Caribbean girl with a beautiful accent! Those remarks cut deep, making me feel small. But overcoming them was crucial in learning how to transform fear into freedom.

Choosing a New Path

The Path to Freedom

After a while, I decided to leave that job and fully embrace my role as a stay-at-home mom. For many years, I poured my energy into raising my kids and managing our household. My children are now grown, and my oldest already moved out. I started to feel lost, because I couldn’t hide behind them anymore. I definitely needed to choose another path. One day, I looked in the mirror and said, “Enough!” I decided to let go of the negativity and find my confidence again. I told myself, “It’s time to take back control and own who I am!” So, I grabbed my confidence, polished it up, and put it on like my favorite outfit. Now, I wear it with pride! Learning how to turn fear into freedom in 5 steps was key to this transformation.

Embracing My Uniqueness

Today, I am embracing my accent, and I am so proud of it. It’s a badge of honor to me. It’s a testament to my pride in being able to speak multiple languages. I realized that it was time to embrace my uniqueness, accept who I am, and teach people how to love me. Yes! I need to love myself first so I can teach others how to love me.

Taking the Leap

One thing I know for sure, comfort zones can feel nice, but they can also be a dry desert, because nothing good grows there. To bloom and thrive, I had to step out! So, I took a big leap and started a YouTube channel. I wanted to share my journey and encourage other women to embrace their uniqueness, just like I did. Every time I speak, I celebrate myself and my strength.
